Dr Anne Staal, BEng MA MBA PhD CIPS
Anne switched from business development with intellectual property into procurement just after the Dotcom bubble. In 2001 he started as a procurement consultant in a major Dutch utility company.
From 2004 – 2005 he was responsible for its newly-merged procurement department of 30 staff and an annual spend of 200+ million NZD. After that he enjoyed his stint as an account manager / bid manager in glass fibre connections and won and implemented two complex European tenders.
From 2007 – 2008 he had a board position in a small Philips production plant as a supply chain and change manager with 13 staff and 20 million procurement spend. He initiated and contributed to a drastic & successful turnaround programme.
Anne switched to academia in 2008 as a senior lecturer specialising in management and in procurement. At Hanze University he was involved in procurement in SMEs and in sustainable procurement. He was one of the first to initiate research on the ISO 20400 guidance on sustainable procurement.
His PhD at the Auckland University of Technology (2013–2019) was on managing innovative suppliers in construction supply chains.
He works as a senior lecturer @AUT in the School of the Future Environments and e.g. supervises post-grad student projects related to procurement. He blogs via Linked-In and publishes via ResearchGate on sustainable procurement and on innovation procurement.
Anne holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Translation Studies and an MBA. He is a member of CIPS. He has been teaching on change management, project management, facilities management, engineering management, marketing, and procurement since 2010. He lives with his family in Auckland and enjoys fair-weather sailing.
